The Sons of Champlin
Music Millennium - June 11, 1999
Noon In-Store Performance - Portland, Oregon

Bill, Tom, & Geoff

Bill Champlin (guitar) - Tom Saviano (saxophone) - Geoff Palmer (keyboard)

Several members of The Sons of Champlin gave an amazing, free in-store performance at Music Millennium - Northwest, 801 N.W. 23rd, in Portland, Oregon on Friday, June 11th at noon. Bill Champlin, Geoff Palmer, and Tom Saviano gave a great performance for the fans gathered at Terry Currier's music store. Even in this abbreviated form it's plain to see that the Sons Of Champlin are the best of the very best.

The atmosphere was totally relaxed. It was obvious that the guitar and the synthesizer were either rented or loaners, but that didn't seem to bother these pros. Bill did have to retune the guitar several times, giving him the opportunity to grace us with a few of his famous one-liner ad libs.

I can't tell you what songs were played, or even how long the guys played. I was too busy enjoying the music. I was very impressed with how good it all sounded in this setting. Bill, Tom, and Geoff did a fantastic set and the crowd was very appreciative. I'm not sure how many people were there, but it looked like all of the aisles were packed out to the door.

Bill, Tom, and Geoff took time after the performance to chat with fans, sign autographs, and pose for pictures. Everyone was given all the time they wanted, with no rushing and no hassles. What a great bunch of guys!!!

Don't Dara and Tom make a cute couple? They are some of the nicest people I've ever met, and it was great to get to spend time with them. :-)

Bill took time to chat with some of the fans beforehand too. This picture was taken across the street from Music Millenium. You can tell that this is quite an animated conversation. (Dave, sorry
I got your back.)

Terry was probably making arrangements for the club gig at Berbati's Pan the following day. It seems that the Seattle promoter, Mighty Quinn Productions, had cancelled the concert scheduled for The Moore Theater in Seattle on June 12th at the last minute. (Most of the band and a few of the fans found out about it the morning of the 11th.) Terry, along with Mert Meeker and Dave Duncan got busy and brought the impromtu gig into being. Hooray!!! You can always count on devout Sons fans to save the day. Thanks y'all!
