The Sons of Champlin
Berbati's Pan - June 12, 1999
Club Performance - Portland, Oregon

Sons

Tom Saviano - Terry Haggerty - Bill Champlin - Geoff Palmer - Dave Schallock

This amazing gig was an added treat for Sons of Champlin fans in Portland and the surrounding area, as well as those who had come from all across the country. It was arranged at the last minute by several fans; Dave Duncan, Mert Meeker, and Terry Currier, with help from other fans, after the Moore Theater concert in Seattle was cancelled by the promoter the day before.

The Sons of Champlin brought the house down, playing some of the songs that hadn't been included in their set list in many years. Although I have no idea what the set list was, everything they played was hotter than hot! The Sons are so incredibly talented that they are almost unbelievable.

I do remember them playing "Lightning", which I'd never heard before... and it was great! As a fairly new fan, there are quite a few older Sons songs I've yet to experience. I had the privilege of hearing several of them at Berbati's Pan. My personal favorite of the new/old songs was "Slippery When It's Wet". It was absolutely awesome to hear it live!

The acoustics in the club were wonderful and the mix was great too. I'm really glad that I got the chance to hear the Sons in this intimate setting.

Here's a few words from Valerie, originally posted on AOL.

"I had such an incredible time. Saturday night pretty much made up for Seattle being canceled. Got to hear some different stuff from the guys and lots of jammin' solos. What an amazingly talented group of musicians, and what a great bunch of guys the Sons are!!

Dara and Kalena, it was so great that you came along, it was so wonderful to meet you and find out just how sweet you both are.

I think Sharon and Sheila's long trips were worth it, I know you girls were havin' some fun! It was great to meet you and all the others, Kathy, Dave, Keith. Carol, had fun waiting in line with you and the guys. Kate, thanks again for getting the Sons back and all your hard work. Maybe with your help we can make Seattle happen. Renee, you're a great lady for making me feel welcome and for keeping me from getting my behind lost in Portland. Can't wait till next time!!!" - Valerie

Valerie, this is a great post and it shows the closeness within the ranks of the Sons family and the love that is generated through the power of the music. It ties us all together. :-)
